Eileen Mooney, a resident of Brookdale Salem, celebrated her 103rd birthday last week.
“It’s been wonderful I could live this long and have a party. I don’t know what to think about it,” she said during the party.
Mooney is a Salem native, having graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. She noted she enjoyed growing up in the area.
She later moved to Princeton, West Virginia, where she lived for many years. “It was a good place to live,” she said.
Coincidentally, her birthday is on Halloween. She said children used to joke about her birthday falling on the same day as Halloween when she was growing up, but she said she took the jokes in stride.
A mother of two sons, she enjoys sewing.
