Early voting for the Nov. 8 election starts on Friday, Sept. 23.
Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor said those wishing to early vote may do so at the Register’s Office in the Patrick County Administration Building.
A form of identification (ID) is required, but it does not have to be a photo ID, she said.
“They can show a drivers’ license, passport, their voter registration ID, a bank statement, a Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) issued ID card, military ID, a student ID, a utility bill, bank statement, a government check, or a paycheck containing the voter’s name and address. Anything that has their name on it,” she said.
Taylor said those that do not have identification can sign an ID confirmation notice, which is “a statement that they are who they are basically,” she said.
The deadline to cast an early ballot is Monday, Oct. 17. There is a five-day waiting period for those that are not currently registered to vote.
The last day for early voting is Saturday, Nov. 5.
The Registrar’s Office is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and two Saturdays – Oct. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Taylor said early voting gives voters an opportunity to participate in the event “they may be out of town on Election Day. They can go ahead and do that and feel like they’re doing it in person.”
She added that many voters like to physically see their ballot go into the machine as opposed to completing a mail-in ballot.
Those wishing to vote by mail must request a ballot be mailed to them. Taylor said ballots that have already been requested will go out the week of Sept. 19.
A postage paid envelope for the ballot to be mailed back will be included. Taylor said ballots need to be postmarked by Election Day and received before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Ballots also are accepted at the Registrar’s Office.
