The Patrick County Economic Development Authority (EDA) discussed façade grant applications at its Aug. 31 meeting.
The county’s EDA director Sean Adkins said he received two applications that were supposed to be presented at the meeting.
“Both of them had a couple of last minute things they needed to tweak, but I have actually received quite a few applications already,” he said. “Right now, we have three from Woolwine and three from Stuart.”
Adkins said he anticipates at least two applications to be presented to the authority at its September meeting.
EDA chairman Bill Clark said garnering countywide coverage and interest in the program would represent success.
Adkins noted that he’s also been coaching interested businesses on how the program works and the requirements to receive grant funds.
The program will help pay to renovate storefronts in the county’s Enterprise Zone. Approved businesses may qualify for reimbursement of up to 50 percent of up to $5,000 of all eligible costs of façade renovation.
In other matters, the authority:
*Approved the Business Development Center AECOM contract that was presented and approved by counsel. Clark said the contact would probably be the largest project the EDA has ever done.
*Had a virtual consultation with Harry Henderson of Anchor Consulting. The authority discussed potential future projects like adding water and sewer to the Meadows of Dan area and how it could potentially fund those projects from federal and state sources.
*Approved the Electronic Meeting Policy as presented.
*Delayed approval of the July 27 meeting minutes.
*Discussed the mobile health unit check presentation and funds.
*Heard the finance report.
*Approved the bills drafted and paid the CenturyLink bill.
*Discussed attendance to the VIP Annual Investors meeting in Richmond on Sept. 23.
Danny Foley and Glenn Roycroft did not attend the meeting.
