Mrs. Betty Lene Goins Allen, 81, of Mount Airy passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.
Mrs. Allen was born in Stokes County on June 20, 1941, to the late Harrison and Mamie Pike Goins. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was also known as the “Puppet Lady”; who owned and operated “Son Shine Puppets” where her and her family performed at churches and children’s events throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina for 41 years. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Flynn D. “Jr.” Allen, Jr; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Allen Minor and husband Timothy; one son Steve Allen and girlfriend, Tina Sawyers; four grandchildren, Mae Lynn Minor, Tyler Monroe Minor, and fiancé, Ashlee Dawn Huybert, Stephanie Rene Allen and fiancé Richard Graves Coburn, Jr., Sarah Francis Allen Sawyers and husband, Zachery Dallas Sawyers; four great-grandchildren, Danielle Rene Coburn, Elizabeth Mae Coburn, Madeyln Francis Coburn, Annabelle Lillian Coburn; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Goins Pell and husband Herley; special sister, Cindy Brent; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Goins; a half-sister, Doshie Bell Crissman; a half-brother, Otis Crissman; along with a great grandson, Robert William Graves Coburn.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery with Rev. Albert Everidge and Rev. Woodrow Flippin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
