I have been so busy these past few weeks I don’t know if I am coming or going. I went to my first craft show of the year this past weekend and it was fun. I love to show my masterpieces to people and see their reactions. I refinish furniture and some of it is really out of the box. Momma Said, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
I love to go out and find old pieces that need a little love, sometimes remaking them into something entirely different from its intended use. I really enjoy saving old pieces of furniture and I can usually envision how I can remake them into something beautiful. Most times it is crazy paint or a beautiful transfer and viola, beauty.
My motto is: rescue, refurbish and reuse. That will be the name of my business when I get rich and can open my own store. I know when I send a piece out the door it is going to be solid and will probably last another 50 years. Most of the pieces I find are solid wood and not pressed cardboard. I won’t refinish something that I would not put in my own home.
Working with wood is very therapeutic for me. Sanding is getting hard on me with the pain that I have in shoulders and neck but it is worth it to run your hand over a piece of wood that is as smooth as glass. Momma Said, “Pain is just a state of mind and I lost my mind a long time ago so I am good to go.”
Salsa Fresca
Ingredients
2-3 medium fresh tomatoes, seeded
½ red onion
1 jalapeno chile (remove seeds for less heat)
Juice of one lime
½ cup chopped cilantro
1 small garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. For a smoother texture, you can pulse half the salsa in a food processor, then combine it with the remaining chunky half. Cover tightly and refrigerate. Chill at least one hour for more flavorful salsa.
