CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team hosted Gilmer County on Monday April 11th for a single game.
Tucker County held a lead late in the contest, but Gilmer County would rally to tie the contest in the top of the 6th inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning, but the Lady Titans got out of the jam to force extra innings. The Lady Titans then scored a run in the top of the 8th inning to gain the lead. Gilmer County then held Tucker County scoreless in the bottom of the 8th inning to win the game by the final score of 12-11.
Rachel Felton had a 2 run homerun for the Lady Mt. Lions while Paige and Ava Shaffer added 2 RBI’s each. Kristen Hicks, Addie Hicks and Ava Shaffer had 3 hits each in the game for Tucker County in the loss. Cheyenne Gooden, Paige Shaffer and Rachel Felton collected 2 hits each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Ava Shaffer started the game on the mound and Paige Shaffer came in and pitched in relief.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County entertained Moorefield for a home game on Tuesday April 12th. Moorefield plated all 4 of its runs in the 1st inning and the visiting Yellow Jackets held the Lady Mt. Lions to just 1 run to claim the win over Tucker County 4-1. Rachel Felton went 2 for 3 batting to lead Tucker County in the loss. Kristen Hicks, Paige Shaffer, Ava Shaffer and Katie Hicks had 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Ava Shaffer fanned six batters on the mound as she took the loss for Tucker County. Paige Shaffer collected the 1 RBI for the Lady Mt. Lions.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions ended the week with a home game against Philip Barbour on Wednesday April 13th. Tucker County took a 5-1 lead after the 1st inning, but the Lady Colts rallied back to get the comeback win 8-5. Philip Barbour scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning, 1 run in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 7th inning to get the road win. Paige Shaffer got the scoring going for Tucker County with a 2 run single in the 1st. Kristen Hicks, Cheyenne Gooden and Addie Hicks also hit run producing singles to score runs for the Lady Mt. Lions in the 1st inning. Rachel Felton, Ava Shaffer, Autumn Russel, Katie Hicks and Katlyn Simmons added hits for Tucker County in the loss. Paige Shaffer took the loss for Tucker County in a complete game pitching effort.
Tucker County(4-10) will host Elkins tonight Wednesday April 20th for a double header with the first game starting at 5pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Petersburg for a doubleheader on Thursday April 21st also beginning at 5pm.
