Technology Enhances Security at Cortland Acres

The new hi-tech visitor check-in system at Cortland is fast, convenient and provides an additional layer of security. Kiosks are located at the nurses station, the Rehab & Fitness Center and the Blackwater Short-term Rehab entrance.

Thomas, WV – – Visitors to Cortland Acres are greeted with a warm smile and now, a new hi-tech visitor check-in system. Upon arrival to Cortland, visitors will need to enter information using a new touchscreen kiosk that immediately prints out a personalized name tag, while recording the date and time of the arrival. Subsequent visits are made easier as the system retains pertinent information from prior visits.

“The purpose of the system called Accushield is to enhance the safety and security of our residents, employees and visitors,” explains Cortland’s Administrator, Beth Clevenger. “We live in an ever-changing world, but the safety of our people has always been a top priority. The fact that we are the first skilled nursing facility in West Virginia to provide this level of technology-driven safety underscores that commitment.”

“Within Cortland’s Vision 2030 are initiatives which identify and implement best practices for nursing homes and retirement communities,” states Cortland Director of Development Dan Bucher. “Central to those initiatives is an increased emphasis on safety and security. We are very fortunate to have generous donors who, through the Cortland Foundation, fund a number of special projects including the installation of Accushield,”
