GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
In the biggest news of Tuesday’s Greenbrier County Commission meeting, Commissioner Tammy Tincher announced that this would be her last meeting as she has accepted a position with the National Association of Counties (NACo) as their Director of Member Engagement. Tincher will be responsible for outreach across the national network of members.
Commission President Lowell Rose said Tincher was the only Commissioner to go through the WV Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties. “We greatly appreciate her efforts,” Rose said. “She will be working with the National Association of Counties. She will still be able to help our county.“
Ritchie Holliday presented Tincher with a wall plaque of the County Seal.
“The County appreciates everything you’ve done,” Holliday said of Tincher. A teary Tincher profusely thanked the council multiple times.
Tincher later told The West Virginia Daily News, “Serving Greenbrier County over the last seven years has been an unbelievable honor. I am excited for this next opportunity to take what I have learned on the ground and work with local officials in counties across the country.”
The Commission on Tuesday voted on a resolution for Operation Greenlight that supports Veterans. The week from Nov. 4-11 11, which includes Veterans Day, has been designated as a special week in which businesses and residences are encouraged to display a green light.
Operation Green Light is for veterans having difficulty transitioning from military life to civilian life. Approximately 44-72% of those transitioning from military life experience stress. The resolution passed unanimously.
The Commission voted to reallocate the rescue funds from March 11, 2021, from the pandemic to the comprehensive plan and the removal of dilapidated structures.
During the public meeting for dilapidated structures, Steven Simmons and Shanna Bennett were sworn in because their testimony may be needed at a later date.
It was approved to demolish all four properties brought before the Commission. They will have a lien put on them.
