The Patrick County Music Association (PCMA) will hold its last show before the official start of summer on Saturday, June 18.
Spencer Strickland & River Ridge will headline the show, and the feature band will be Jus’ Cauz.
The event will be held at the Rotary Building in Stuart. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the music will start at 6 p.m.
Denny Alley, president of PCMA, said Strickland has been playing and building instruments almost his entire life.
“He’s a top luthier on the East Coast. Most of the time, you’ll wait two years on a waiting list for him to build you an instrument,” he said.
Strickland also has performed on numerous shows and with a variety of bands. Alley said he is perhaps most famous for writing and playing the introduction to “Song of the Mountains,” a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) program that showcases bluegrass and old-time country music.
After the show, the PCMA will take a break for the summer before resuming in October with a Tri-Fest, Alley said, and added the October show will be the organization’s 20th anniversary show.
“In November, we’re doing a special show for the veterans, and in December. we’ve got The Lonesome River Band,” he said.
Admission is a $5 donation at the door. Lawn chairs are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded throughout the night.
Concessions will be available for purchase from the Patrick County Shooting Education Team, with proceeds used to teach children in the area firearm safety.
