Forgotten Cemeteries: Kyle Cemetery | Fincastle Herald


The Kyle Cemetery is located on private property at 732 Zion Hill Road in Fincastle.

Christopher Kyle, the son of Joseph Kyle and Jane Diuguid, was born in 1796 and died in 1866. He was married in 1820 to Hattie McFerren. Hattie was born in 1799 and died in 1879. Hattie was the daughter of Samuel and Hannah McFerren.

Joseph Kyle was born in 1821 and died in 1889. Joseph, the son of Christopher and Hattie, was married to Mary Jane Peck on January 8, 1845 in Botetourt County. The Botetourt Genealogy Club was not able to find proof that Mary Jane Kyle was interred there.

Joseph and Mary had two young children buried there, Martha (1851-1862) and Martin (1860-1862).

William G. Kyle, who was born in 1874, is also buried here.

Joseph Kyle was appointed postmaster of the Kyle Post Office on January 27, 1888. Thomas Moyer was appointed to take over as postmaster at Joseph Kyle’s death. The Botetourt Genealogy Club can be contacted at with proof of any additional information about this or other cemeteries.
