An update on the county’s 2020, 2021 high school graduation ceremonies was given on Sept. 10 to the Botetourt County School Board by Dr. John Russ, the division’s superintendent.
“For the class of 2020, we want to reiterate the promise that was made several months ago that once we are allowed to convene a crowd big enough to handle these graduations, we’re still planning to recognize you at a graduation ceremony,” he said. “We have not forgotten you and your day is coming.”
Michelle Crook, chair of the board, reminded everyone that restrictions are stricter on school divisions than they are on the general public.
“We are not able to even convene LB’s graduating class because it’s larger than the gathering limit,” she said.
According to the update, Lord Botetourt High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 24, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center and James River High School will hold its graduation ceremony on May 25, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. on the James River High School football field.
“We sure can harbor the hope that they will be in-person this coming year,” Crook commented.
