In the last six months, the Town of Buchanan has undergone an aggressive development program that has resulted in the downtown business core experiencing new revitalization with the recent additions of several exciting new businesses such as Tammie’s Place Restaurant, MECS Pawn & Gun Shop, James River Drip, Faithful Country Creations, Stop-in Delicatessen, Gateway Real Estate and now the proposed unique Buchanan Mini-Mall.
Buchanan’s largest 20,000-sq.-ft. downtown retail store, formerly the 28-year location of the Family Furniture Store, then Creations Art Gallery & Gift Shop, is being repurposed as a 75+ vendor upscale merchandise mini-mall. The new Buchanan Mini-Mall will initially start as a “Saturday Only” venue, and will include quality vendors selling gift items, candles, incense, artwork, jewelry, clothing, preserves and baked goods, antiques, T-shirts, etc.
With the town commercially expanding, the location of “Creations Art Gallery & Gift Shop” that has been in Buchanan for 13 years, can now diversify into a unique multi-faceted mini-mall concept. The concept grew out of the Covid-19 pandemic and the negative fact that many vendors had to pivot their usual operational practices to keep their businesses going under local and national restrictive circumstances. However, now, with the Buchanan Mini-Mall multi-vendor concept, even part-time vendors, with regular jobs, can have a permanent “indoor” location on Saturdays to gain much-needed additional revenues.
One of the main advantages of this prime indoor space is that vendors do not have to “pack and unpack” their merchandise; arrive early to set up and then breakdown at end of day. Instead, the vendor’s merchandise remains securely in their assigned location, where their customers can easily find them on a regular basis, and importantly, weather is never an issue. The other positive aspect is that the Buchanan Mini-Mall is positioned to become an “upscale” product and client environment” with attractive booths and product merchandising and a no junk or unsavory products policy.
The Buchanan Mini-Mall will feature approximately 75 10-foot by 10-foot permanent selling booths at $25 per day [Saturdays only, based on a 4-week rental agreement], intermingled with an assortment of private smaller selling tables available from $10 per day. In addition to the Main Street level of the Buchanan Mini-Mall, the upper floor houses Glow-A-Rama, featuring a Blacklight Mini-Golf Course and Blacklight Family Game Room. Also, in an effort to satisfy the growing need for Botetourt area micro-office space, there will also be an availability for “incubator” small business rental spaces on the upper floor.
