• Botetourt County Fair – Remember how much fun it was to go to the County Fair? Recapture those memories with your kids this weekend at the Botetourt County Fair. Organized through the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office – Botetourt County and other community leaders, the sixth annual Botetourt County Fair is a free admission event taking place at the Buchanan Town Park. The fair provides an opportunity for kids, young and young-at-heart to learn more about the rich agricultural heritage of the region from local working farms, 4-H programs, as well as sample local fare, including Botetourt grown products.

• Second Sunday Dinner – Buchanan’s Second Sunday Dinner is this Sunday, Aug. 11 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. in the historic Wilson Warehouse. August’s menu consists of open face pork barbeque, corn on the cob, roasted red potatoes, green beans and choice of dessert for $12; dine in or carry out. Proceeds will go towards painting the woodwork of the historic Wilson Warehouse.

• An Evening In Buchanan – “Meet me on Main Street” Friday, Aug. 16 for Buchanan’s annual “An Evening In Buchanan.” Bring family, friends and a lawn chair and be prepared to discover the simpler things in life; good friends, good food, good music and good times. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. (If you cannot make it this month, be sure to save the third Friday of September 20.) This month features carriage rides, a caricature artist, the Community Market, live music featuring “The Floorboards,” kids’ activities including games, the Art Wall and Cow Pie Bingo.
