According to the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, at 6:56 a.m. this morning Botetourt deputies responded to Big Spring Road in Fincastle for a domestic situation where dispatch had received a 911 call that was disconnected while they attempted to get information on the situation. The first deputies to arrive on the scene were met outside the residence by an agitated male subject, who was later identified as John A McCarty Sr., 55, of Fincastle.
McCarty retreated inside the home and came back out with what appeared to be a firearm, demanding that the deputies leave his property. This prompted the deputies on scene to ask for additional units to respond.
As other units arrived, McCarty came in and out of the home. using a parked vehicle as cover. At one point, McCarty retrieved a crossbow and took it back into the home.
Around 7:30 a.m., McCarty went into the home and refused to come out. While McCarty was inside the home, deputies observed him through a window holding what appeared to
be a firearm. He later made threats to shoot the deputies on the scene. McCarty also loaded the crossbow…
