Engineering students at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School used their design skills and a 3-D printer to build a new prosthetic hand and adapter for 10 year old Nathaniel Guilmart. The students held several consultations with Nathaniel before settling on a design for the adapter in order to assess the young boy’s needs. Once the planning process was over, the students printed the parts using a 3-D printer and assembled them to form a new hand and an adapter that would allow Nathaniel to grip with the prosthetic. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to use technology for a real-world project.
