On July 2 Derek Sliwinski started as Tucker County’s newest Sheriff’s Deputy. Sliwinski originates from Pittsburgh and has been introduced to West Virginia through his studies at West Virginia University.
Majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. He started his journey into law enforcement with an internship at a probation center in Mon County and then a three year stint as a counselor at the Rubenstein Center. This reinforced his feelings on becoming a law enforcement officer.
Sliwinski settled on Tucker County for it’s wildlife, saying “I’ve always been into hiking, fishing, snowboarding and just enjoying the weather.” When he’s not taking advantage of the natural splendor he’s interested in helping out with the Davis Fire Department. For now, he’s had to put that on hold with his entry into the Police Academy coming up.
