Flaccavento, an Abingdon democrat, emerged from the primary with 251 of the 290 votes total cast among Patrick voters in his party’s primary bid. This marks his second congressional bid.
Justin Santopietro, a Blacksburg democrat, received 39 of the votes cast, according to unofficial results provided by Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor.
Flaccavento swept the local precincts, picking up 22 votes in the Dan River District, compared to six for Santopietro. He also received 51 of the ballots cast in the Peter’s Creek District to five ballots cast there for Santopietro.
In the Mayo River District, 34 of the 40 votes cast were for Flaccavento, with six votes for Santopietro. In the Blue Ridge District, Flaccavento received 83 of the ballots cast to Santopietro’s 13.
Flaccavento picked up 47 votes in the Smith River District; eight were cast for Santopietro; He also won 14 of the ballots cast in the Central Absentee Precinct compared to the single vote cast for Santopietro, unofficial results showed.
