Republican Jason Peters has been elected for a second term to the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors representing the Vinton Magisterial District. He defeated Democrat Ben Shepherd who was running for office for the first time.

Unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections show that Peters won the race in each of five precincts with a total of 3,456 votes (69 percent) to Shepherd’s 1,494 (29 percent). The results in each precinct were: North Vinton, Peters 562 votes, Shepherd 234; South Vinton, Peters 651, Shepherd 284; Lindenwood, Peters 1191, Shepherd 493; Bonsack, Peters 211, Shepherd, 87; and Mount Pleasant, Peters 697, Shepherd 345.

Peters ran on his strong record of economic development; he was instrumental in many projects both in Vinton and throughout the county during his first term in office and served as chairman of the board for two of those years.
