Mudbass tournament Saturday

The Virginia Tech Chapter of the American Fisheries Society will host the 34th Annual Mudbass Classic Tournament on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Duck Pond on the Blacksburg campus.

The tournament is free to the public and open to all ages. In past years, most participants have been between four and 15 years old. Fishing gear will be provided. Limited parking is available near the Duck Pond; no parking permit is required on the weekend.

Beamer, Fuente, Curry in tournament

Virginia Tech Head Coach Justin Fuente and former basketball great Dell Curry will represent the Hokies in the 11th annual Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament. The duo will compete for a share of a $630,000 total purse, and the team’s winnings will be split between an endowed scholarship at Virginia Tech and Herma’s Readers. Frank Beamer will also be participating, representing the first-ever College Football Playoff Selection Committee along with Bobby Johnson.

Herma’s Readers was founded in 2008 by former Beamer as a tribute to his mother, Mrs. Herma Beamer, who was an educator for 30 years. The organization’s goal is to promote literacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia by distributing new and used books to children.

The nation’s premier head coach and celebrity golf event will be held April 30 to May 3 at Reynolds Lake Oconee outside of Atlanta.

Wednesday Fitness Walk

Staff of the Christiansburg Recreation Department will lead a walk around various parks and town destinations during April and May. The activity is 12:10 -12:50 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Kids fishing rodeo

The Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will host their annual kids fishing rodeo on Sunday, May 21. The three age groups are up to six, 7-9, and 10-12 with plaques awarded for the top three weights in each age group.
The event is free for the kids with lunch being provided. Registration will be held from 12-2 p.m., and fishing 2-4 p.m.
